🇪🇸Y llegamos al final de este resumen express de nuestro paso por Cannes. Ha sido una feria fantástica, donde no solo hemos entrado en un mercado nuevo con muy buenos resultados y prometedores proyectos para 26/27, también hemos jugado y mucho. Nuestro querido Toy Battle se llevó el premio gordo y nos lo trajimos firmado por Paolo Mori, además del tablero exclusivo de Cannes. Pudimos vernos y jugar con compañeros (Anna, Pau, Eloi y Noemí), comer ricos churros por la noche, probar la gastronomía del lugar, pasear por el paseo marítimo y seguir descubriendo juegos y una feria que pese a estar 3 días todavía tenías las sensación de no haberla visto al completo. Pese a lo que nos contaron, la gente hacía el esfuerzo por hablar inglés. Incluso la gente random con la que te sentabas a jugar, y eso proyecta el evento y lo internacionaliza aún más. Ha sido un disfrute, y volveremos. Seguro. Y quizás pronto tengáis noticias de algo nuestro en Francia…

🇬🇧We have reached the end of our express resume on our trip to Cannes. It’s been a great convention, where we have not only reached into a new market with great overall results and promising projects for 2026-27, but where we also played a lot. Our dearest Toy Battle won the biggest prize possible, and we were able to bring a signed copy by Paolo Mori back home, besides the exclusive board they created for the festival. We managed to meet and play with our friends Anna, Paul, Eloi and Noemí, we eat great churros late at night, we tried local gastronomy, we walked by the beach and we discovered fascinating games and an overall convention that felt like there was still so much to see even after 3 days there. Despite what we were told before visiting, we felt everyone made an effort to speak English, even random people we’d sit with to play a game. This elevated the whole experience, and it felt even more international to us. We truly enjoyed Cannes, and we will be back for sure. You may soon have some news from us related to France, so stay tuned…

🇪🇸Hay una tendencia que lleva tiempo dejándose notar y es el aumento de la gama media o family. No solo a nivel de creación, también de venta. Si Essen @spiel_messe es la cuna del euro y del juego duro, Cannes @festival_des_jeux_cannes es en su gran mayoría juegos ligeros y medios. Y, sobre todo, un nivel de calidad en lo visual que está a años luz de casi todo lo que se hace en Alemania (y es una de las razones que nos animó a ir vestidos de amarillo Meeple Foundry). Y no hablamos de un par de títulos, nada de eso, hablamos desde un juego de cartas de menos de 15 € hasta una caja media o grande. En lo laboral era un mercado nuevo para nosotros, y tanto editoriales grandes como algunas más desconocidas para nosotros tenían muchísimo nivel en lo gráfico e ilustrativo. Para que os hagáis una idea, el premio As D’Or no se entrega a ningún título que no tenga el ilustrador en la portada. ¡Bien!

🇬🇧 There is a trend we’ve been seeing for some time now, and that’s the hottest games are either family oriented, or at a medium-weight. Not only on the creation end, but also sales-wise. While at the @spiel_messe everyone wants the heavier and euro games, at @festival_des_jeux_cannes people seem to navigate more towards medium and light games. And, above everything, an exquisite quality of visuals, that seems years apart from what’s done in Germany (and this was one of the reasons we had to go as Meeple Foundry). We’re not even talking about a couple of games only, but so many, and that can be from 15€ card games, up to medium sized boxes. Work-wise it is a new market for us, yet both really large publishers and smaller indie ones seem to focus a lot on art, illustrations and graphic design. Just so you can get a better idea of its importance on the French market, no game can be nominated at the As D’Or if the name of the artist is not on the box. Isn’t that fantastic?

🇪🇸 ¡Qué maravillosa experienca! Este 2026 ha sido nuestro primer Cannes y podemos aseguraros que no será el último. La ciudad se llena de mupis y banderolas y esta mimetización hace que la ciudad, la gente y el evento sean uno. No os vamos a mentir, ha conseguido desbancar a nuestra querida UKGE como feria top de Europa. Es taaan nuestro rollo, taaaan mediterránea (algunas carpas están literalmente sobre arena de playa) tanto de clima cómo de carácter. Y esto puede pareceros una tontería pero el espíritu de la gente con costa se nota y mucho (y lo decimos como buenos malagueños). El primer día tardamos en ubicarnos porque el palacio de eventos engaña, es más grande de lo que aparenta (el mismo donde las estrellas de cine lucen galas). Nuestra cabeza no paraba de recibir estímulos de todas partes e inconscientemente comparaba Cannes con otros tantos eventos a los que hemos ido. El Festival de Cannes es TOP, y os seguiremos contando por qué…

🇬🇧 What a marvelous experience! This year it was our first time visiting Cannes, but we can assure you it won’t be the last. The city is full of ads and banned, and we found that fascinating, as it feels like the city, the people and the event are one united entity. We won’t deny it has ousted our dear UKGE as the top European board games convention for us. Cannes feels like our vibe, it feels Mediterranean (some spots are actually ON the beach sand), and the climate and people’s character feel like home. This may seem insignificant to you, but we really feel how people who live on the coast have a different vibe, and we notice it as being locals in a coastal city, Málaga. The first day it took us a bit to locate ourselves and the right entrance, as the congress hall is much bigger than it seems, and it’s actually the same where the famous movie festival is held. Our heads felt full of stimulations coming from all sides, and we couldn’t stop comparing the convention with others we’ve visited before. This is indeed on our TOP tier, and we’ll detail more about why that is…

🇪🇸Nos trajeron este mini juego de @allplayhq diseñado por el todos conocido @dt.chris.yi de @dicetower. Chris es un tío majísimo. Estuvimos charlando con él en el pasado @spiel_messe. Cuando nos enteramos de su diseño y vimos, además, el precioso arte lo quisimos al momento. Mezcla mecánicas muy ingeniosas que se traducen en soluciones muy divertidas, y las puntuaciones pueden resultar muy locas. Irás colocando cartas boca abajo en columnas de puestos de refrescos para al final de la ronda, puntuarlas. Podrás colocar las que correspondan o farolear para, sí resulta una suma superior de frutas distintas al puesto, contarán en negativo. O colocas carta o volteas una ya colocada. Si todos voltean en su turno, se descubren todas las cartas y se puntúa cada columna (el valor resultante de cada columna por el número de cartas de esa fruta en tu mano). A 2 tiene una variación muy ingeniosa que invierte el positivo y el negativo. Divertido, fresco y de bolsillo. Genialidad.

🇬🇧 We asked a friend to bring us from Gen Con this game by @allplayhq, created by @dt.chris.yi, mostly known as part of @dicetower. Chris is a super cool guy, and last time we met him was at the @spiel_messe last year. As soon as we found out about his design, and then we checked the stunning art, we knew we needed it! Soda Jerk has innovative mechanics that translate into fun plays, and the scoring can vary a lot from player to player. You will have to place cards below columns of soda stalls, in order to score them at the end of the round. You’ll have to either choose to place the “correct” fruits, or bluff a bit - if the total has a higher value of wrong fruits compared to the right ones, they’ll score negative points. During your turn, you either place a card or flip one that’s already on the table. If all players flip a card on their turn, all cards are revealed and it’s time to score! You’ll have to multiply the value of each fruit by the number of cards you have in your hand. As a 2p game it has a different twist that allows you to change a value from negative to positive and vice-versa. It is fun, fresh and easy to play. Genius, right?

🇪🇸La verdad que me hace especial ilusión enseñarle este juego a Diana. Como buen fan de The Witcher fue muy guay saber que Gwent acabaría llegando en físico y además que no sería un coleccionable de cartas. La editora de videojuegos @cdprojektred sabe lo que se hace y @genxgamesoficial estuvo rápido pillando todo lo que sale de The Witcher, así que gracias a ellos podemos disfrutarlo en mesa y en español, lo que nos da un pequeño descanso de pantallas. Lo genial del juego es que es muy sencillo, tiene un tempo muy inteligente y limitar las rondas a 3 lo hace tan rápido como efectivo. Mantiene las 5 facciones del original (y la tercera línea de combate que no aparecía en ThroneBreaker) y una vez pasada el aprendizaje podrás montarte tú mismo el mazo, ya que no es coleccionable. No pudimos dejar escapar algunas cartas foil y los tapetes. Somos débiles con los juegos que nos gustan. ¿Lo habéis probado?

🇬🇧 I, Samuel, am extremely happy to teach Diana this game. I am a huge The Witcher fan, so knowing that Gwent was going to pass onto the physical world and not be a merely collectable card game was great news. The publishing hourse in charge, @cdprojektred, knows what they’re doing, and @genxgamesoficial quickly decided to publish it in Spanish. Thanks to them we’re able to still enjoy the game, while taking a screen break. The fun part about Gwent is that it is a simple game, it’s smart on timings, and the limit they put to 3 rounds is equally fast and effective. It maintains the 5 original factions (and the third combat line that didn’t appear on Throne Breaker), and once you’ve learned how it’s played, you can build your own deck. We couldn’t let go of some foil cards and the mats, we must admit we’re weak for the games we generally like. Have you tried it?
